A solar model with improved subatmospheric stratification
نویسنده
چکیده
The calculated intermediate and high degree p-mode frequencies of standard solar models show greater disagreement with the observations than low degree modes. This leads to the conclusion that the subatmospheric structure of the models has to be improved. We are presenting solar models with up-to-date input physics and controlled numerical accuracy of 10 5. For the outer boundary condition we use synthetic atmospheres fitted to the interior solution at 20. In addition, a spatially variable mixing length parameter has been employed to reproduce the pressure-temperature stratification of the outer convective zone calculated by 2D-hydrodynamical models we used for comparison. With this changed subatmospheric structure we could improve the agreement between predicted and observed p-mode frequencies in our solar models.

Optimization of the PCM-integrated solar domestic hot water system under different thermal stratification conditions
Many researchers have investigated how to increase the overall efficiency of solar-driven thermal systems. Several key parameters, such as collector efficiency and storage tank characteristics, may impose some constraints on the annual solar fraction (ASF) of such systems. In this paper, the behaviour of integrating the phase change material (PCM) in SDHW systems is modelled and optimized n...

متن کاملImpact of Satellite Remote Sensing Data on Simulations of Coastal Circulation and Hypoxia on the Louisiana Continental Shelf
We estimated surface salinity flux and solar penetration from satellite data, and performed model simulations to examine the impact of including the satellite estimates on temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen distributions on the Louisiana continental shelf (LCS) near the annual hypoxic zone. Rainfall data from the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) were used for the salinity f...
متن کاملA more realistic representation of overshoot at the base of the solar convective envelope as seen by helioseismology
The stratification near the base of the Sun’s convective envelope is governed by processes of convective overshooting and element diffusion, and the region is widely believed to play a key role in the solar dynamo. The stratification in that region gives rise to a characteristic signal in the frequencies of solar p modes, which has been used to determine the depth of the solar convection zone a...
متن کاملA model of the wavelength dependence of solar irradiance variations
The variation of the solar irradiance over the solar cycle has a strong wavelength dependence, being larger at shorter wavelengths. Here we present simple models of the spectral dependence of irradiance variations between solar activity maximum and minimum. We find that the observations (which concentrate on the UV) cannot be reproduced by a change in effective temperature of the Sun (or of par...
